Well yeah, tables for tabular data is a given of course. But for general laying they're a no-no. Having said that, HTML 4.01 is still a standard so it's hard to know.

Yes, but from what I can gather it's not really that weighted. Nested headings and such are good for your ranking but semantic code doesn't seem too high on G's list of priorities.

There seem to be a few ongoing tweaks anyway. My bloody ranking is going up and down like a yoyo. One minute I'm ranked 21st, the next I'm down to 80th and then back up again... and then down again. It's a nonsense really.
