Default Are Google stupid or is it just me?

Some of you might be aware but Google seem to be trying to snyc up user's accounts for ease of us. When I attempt to login to Adsense I get notified of a new Google Key type thing which is going to help me login to different Google Apps using the same login. In order to complete the wizard you must answer the following questions...

Which best describes you?

I have an AdWords account or another AdSense account.

I do not use these other services.

Would you like to have a single account for all Google services?
You can use your existing Google account email address and password for AdSense as well. Or you can choose new ones just for AdSense.

I would like to choose a new login name and password just for AdSense.
So I type in my gmail a/c and I get a message stating....

A user with the email you specified already exists
Please select a different Google Account login to access this account.
Am I doing something wrong or is this wizard just thick?
