I beg to disagree. I'd take someone with a marketing/business background for this role a long time before I'd take an IT person.
SEO is fast changing into a discipline where business acumen and marketing savvy are far more important than technical know-how. The technical stiff matters, but understanding people is far more relevant IMHO.
