i fix a lot of pc problems for people - used to do it for part time cash for 4 or 5 years - i would seriouly caution people to try vista before you buy it. My experience is this - i have fixed various problems ( remove virus/install bb/setup email etc) on about 5 or 10 vista m/c's and i almost always ended up tearing my hair out - of course this has happened with xp also but not to anywhere the same degree
it is slower than xp, asks for permission and warns you (by default) at every turn and is a change for the worst in several areas ( little things that were fine in xp have now changed for some reason that escape me) loads of software doesnt work with it - mobile broadband is hit and miss as to whether it will install - and all for what .... a cooler interface is the only plus i can see. If i had to buy a new machine i would factor in another 100 and install a dual boot xp and use that instead...... wow i didnt know i hated it so much
