Default form sending without php

Hi all.... I have this client that had a site before and im just redesigning. They want a form that sends the info the user put in to there email address. I can do this using php. but the client had the hosting and that before i started the job and is a basic hosting that does not have php on it. So im wondering are there any other ways of sending forms. like javascript or something

Not sure myself.

you could use CGI via a perl script. Or you could host the php script on your server (which has PHP) and get the POST information sent that way.

Default Hi

Yea i know i could host it on a place that has php already. They bought the hosting before they came looking for it to be designed and they spent 100 euro on hosting that doesnt have php which is crap. And they dont want to upgrade now cause it cost so much. So in a kind of a pickle.

I found a javascript form on the internet but it doenst just send the form it opens up outlook express which i dont want cause not everyone uses that

so not sure what to do

What about CGI ? Can they run scripts ? You will need something executable on the server to handle the incoming data.

personally I didn't think there were still paid hosts not offering php support !

Default Found the problem

When i checked a php file on the server it just wouldnt work. So i started checking through the system features and found whoever designed the site before hand had turned off php. So its all working now.

Matter of flicking a switch

Cheers for the help though

If the hosting account does not have server-side code available you have two options:

- set up the form to use a script on a server that is (not recommended)

- use a filthy hack that sends the form using a mail client

OR simply tell the client that if they want that kind of functionality they will need proper hosting (which won't cost more than about 30 - 40 euro a year)
