Unhappy Template query

Hi,
I've noticed lots of website templates include a screenshot in Photoshop .psd format. I'm wondering how come they include the photoshop image? Editing the image doesn't modify the template so why not just use a jpeg or something non proprietary or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

You're missing the fact that the PS file probably contains slices which can be used to chop up the image into the appropriate images when you go to imageready

This means that you can alter colours and so on and just pretty much export the whole thing without having to mess with the individual files in the template

No problem.

To be honest I barely use the image slices I find them in some senses more hastle for what I'm doing but then I try to develop sites that are light on graphical elements

Another reason you might find the PSD files included is so you have the full image of people used in case you want to use it in other places (though you'd have to check the license in the template to make sure)
