Default Blue Dragon Server - free cold fusion

I really wasn't sure where to put this - sorry if I got it wrong.

I was playing with this last night, and it looks interesting.

Has anybody tried it?

If I was to invest time in it, would I be able to deploy my cold fusion apps to a regular cold fusion host without problems? I'm also wondering what extra value I would be getting from Adobe if I forked over for their software (they've already fleeced me for CS3 Web premium).

Are their any people on with PHP and coldfusion experience? I would like to hear your thoughts.

It's not Cold Fusion. It supports some of the CFML tags, but not all of them. I can't remember if it has its own tags as well.

Can you move to a "normal" CFML host?

Possibly. I honestly don't know

I'm coming at CF as a complete noob.

Basically I was looking the blue dragon server as a poor man's cold fusion. I'd be hoping to evaluate the cold fusion experience with this tool alone (locally), before deciding if it is worth the investment in time (and possibly money) to master the technology. I saw that not all the cold fusion tags are supported - but not knowing the lingo, I don't know if what is missing is important!

As you say I guess I could use shared hosting with CF support, its just a lot easier to test on my localhost XAMPP setup if that is a possibility wioth this tool. Of course I wont spend 1300 odd on the adobe software just for a local test environment.

As far as I know you can get developer versions of Cold Fusion for cheap / free (that may have changed since Adobe took over)

The problem with Cold Fusion is cost.

Most hosting companies don't support it, as it costs us a fortune in licensing fees vs. very little return. I worked out how much our Cold Fusion clients were worth to us and it was depressing

Why are you so interested in Cold Fusion?

I'm negotiating a job at the moment, part of which involves adding functionality to a CF site. I need a feel for what I'm getting into before I quote for it.

All I saw on adobe's site is a flashing "buy-me" box over a €1300 product. I'll see if I can locate a cheap developer version. If you recall any more about it please post a quick response.

Off the top of my head I think the developer/localhost version is a free download. Like any good dealer Adobe give you the first shot free then jack-up the price

Go to Adobe, find the Cold Fusion product page and look for the link to "Download the Free Developer version", sorted
