This is a discussion on Cdonts? within the Coding Help forums, part of the Webmaster Help category; I'm not an ASP developer.... However I don't understand why so many insist on using CDONTS when it's been defunct ...

I'm not an ASP developer....

However I don't understand why so many insist on using CDONTS when it's been defunct for over 3 years...

Is there something that I'm missing?

CDOSYS is the upgrade of CDONTS released with the latest version of windows (from W2000 ->).
The code is not the same and many probably have old websites that don't want to upgrade or they don't know how, others might go for the first solution they were recommended in forums like boards.ie

Not really. Sometimes they get snippets that use cdonts system, the reason they are looking for it.

Also CDOSYS is more particular how the code goes and how it handles errors.

It's the first asp component you learn when you want to send mails. I know it was for me but that was 5/6 years ago. Point them at this in the future if you like:
