There are a bunch of different ways to do database searching. The primary term you need to be familiar with is "index". you index your content which is all about pulling key words from your content and creating a seperate reference to them in another table. The w3schools tutorials are not going to be much use I wouldn't think. they tach html css and javascript. not php and mysql so much.

So just to say, try sites like devshed.com for tutorials. I always remember a guy who went by the nick melonfire, who wrote great php and mysql tutorials. He discussed one tutorial before, it was about making a relevance search for text content in a database table. it was interesting. do some googleing.
