Default nvidia drivers on ubuntu?

I'm having issues configuring X on my new shiny install of Ubuntu.

Any suggestions?

On the laptop i installed Ubuntu myself, and had the same problem myself with the Nvidia driver. i haven't use it since (last year) because of that.

If the laptop was new at the time the hardware support might not have been great. If you try the latest release you should do better.

YMMV

Actualy the laptop was about 1 year old. I checked the Ubuntu website and at that time I installed the recommended one by them and it made it worse.
I'll probably give another go this week coming, but i probably should get the new Ubuntu.

Same kind of problem here. Although Nvidia supposedly offer drivers for Linux(Ubuntu) I couldn't do the whole configuring "X" thing so I stuck to 1024*768 (Maybe 800*600 can't remember). Anyway, that and my wireless card doesn't have a Ubuntu driver is why I'm not using Ubuntu full-time.

David

Unless your laptop is brand new (as in only bought last week) I'd be very surprised if there weren't drivers available for it at this stage

Michele - who is still trying to fix his Nvidia problems
