Default Windows 7 - Took the plunge

...and I'm lovin' it so far.

Anybody else tried the beta version of Windows 7 yet?

Massive improvement on Vista methinks, even though, there's only been a few under the hood adjustments and a small facelift, things are working so much better than Vista, even tho I must confess, I never really had a problem with Vista, this is soo much better from the inside out.

For example, Search on Vista (and XP) used to involve indexing and all sorts of other useles features, it was slow and groggy, and now, without indexing at all, the search is at least five times faster.

Yep. I've used it for a while on a dev box and have downloaded the Windows 7 release candidate. It is quite an improvement though I doubt if I'll be using it yet on any of the main work boxes here. (I use WinXP and WinXP pro for some of the domain and hoster stats reports compilation and for Dreamweaver (haven't got around to using that properly yet)). The speed of it was unusual for a Microsoft product. The multiple desktop/toolbar thing is useful. Most of the time I use Linux so multiple desktops are essential. I might upgrade a box to W7 when it goes on sale.

I think I'll be way quicker to upgrade to 7 than I was to vista. Can't wait to move on from vista but I'll most likely wait until 7 is fully released before checking it out.

Eh, well of course Vista had it's deficiencies, but in my opinion is was all exaggerated for good headlines on blogs and by Mac enthusiasts.

But yes, anywho, a big improvement on Vista.

Sounds good. What's the drain on the system resources? I'm guessing I'm going to need a newish machine for windows 7?

I have heard good things about Windows 7. I'm glad I stuck with xp and avoided the whole vista "experience" lol. Windows 7 will be a good os at about Sp2 imho. I'll wait for Sp2 of the the final realease and put my xphome SP3 to bed

For 1 week i tried to get virtualbox running my host OS's at "normal speed" on windows 7 enterprize final release, but no, always very slow graphically. The same virtual machines worked fine in previous version of vista sp2 and now on server 2008 r2. I'm giving this one a miss until service pack 1, i dont think microsoft could even hit the nail on the head until sp1/2 of any OS.

I read that MS were concentrating on continuous upgrades, to get over the fact that "wait till SP2".
The SP. if available will only be a packaged bundle of upgrades from a set point in time.

Hi Maco, is your laptop a Dell laptop?

I know of two people who have bought BRAND NEW Dell laptops with Win7, and their wireless connection just doesn't work. Both using the RJ45/plug socket thingy solution.

They've both had Dell technicians log on remotely to the machines, and nothing. I've been through both of them, can't see a thing wrong.

    Anyone else experienced this?

Now it's been 3 or 4 months, so maybe there's been another driver release.

    Oh, Wireless cards are Intel.
