| A client of mine currently has their .ie domain name registered through another company, I basically handle the design and hosting of their website. Recently they got a bill from their domain name registrar and have asked me if it is possible for us to take over their domain so they are just billed by the one company. They also had a bad experience getting their website done through the other company which is why they went with us and would be happier if we handled it all for them. My question is basically is it possible for me to take care of the transfer process for them, and if so how should I go about it? They would remain admin, whereas I would be the new technical and billing contact. Obviously I want to avoid the client transferring directly themselves to another registrar so I can put my own mark-up on the price and try to keep it as white label as possible. But is it possible and will they receive email notifications from the new registrar? Sounds like a lot of trouble! |

| You would need to get your client to authorise the transfer of the domain's billing from one IE reseller to another. I can't speak for how other people handle things, but the way we do it is that you would be our point of contact. Your client would never be contacted unless you defaulted on payment basically. | That sounds very promising, how would they authorize the transfer without dealing with the new reseller directly? Would I just ask them to sign a letter that grants me permission to handle the transfer for them and then I pass this onto the new reseller? |
