Default Domain Registrant

I have a client that isn't the legal registrant of their domain name.
I spoke to Nominet and have been given advice on how the registrant company can switch over legal ownership to my client.
The IPS TAG has been transferred to a new registrar but there seems to be an issue with changing the legal registrant even though it would appear to be fairly easy.

Should I just get on with things and leave the registrant as is? or should I insist that it's changed?

At present a registrant change for a co.uk incurs a fee.

It's better for all parties concerned if the registrant is set correctly

Hi Michele,

Yes I'm aware of the fee and that isn't a problem as my client would be willing to pay the fee.

I'm simply trying to act in my client's best interests as in the long term he might invest quite heavily.

Although it's common practice for web agenices to buy domain names on 'behalf' of clients, it's not good practice? is it?

And what could be some of the pitfalls and restrictions of a client not owning his own domain name?

thanks
Michael.

Web agencies may buy domains on behalf of whoever they want but they should register the domain with the correct details. Failure to do so is gross negligence in my opinion

Where to start?
If the domain is registered to a 3rd party getting an SSL cert could be an issue.
Renewing the domain could be a problem
Proving who owns the domain is impossible
You could actually lose control of the domain entirely
