First of, hi everyone and thanks for reading my thread. I have looked at the requirements for registering a .ie at register365 and it's pretty clear to me that are strict requirements for registering an Irish domain. I'm wondering if there is any way possible for someone who isn't an Irish citizen, and doesn't conduct business in Ireland to apply for an .ie domain name.

I understand that are reasons for the stricter registration guidelines of .ie, but I'm left wondering if there are any possible means of satisfying these requirements, perhaps if I host the website with an Irish webhosting company that can help me register the domain.

Let me know if you think this is possible, although I am not holding my breath..

You don't have to be an Irish citizen to be able to register an .ie domain BUT ( as far as I know ) you have to have a business registered in Ireland ( a business name will do ).
Probably the only way for you would be to associate with somebobody who can open ( register ) a business here.

If you are not resident in Ireland or trading with Ireland you cannot get a .ie domain.

The only exception to that would be if you were registering a domain that corresponded to a trademark that you held

Thanks for your reply. This is pretty much matches my understanding of the rules. I suppose I could register a .com name, then file a trademark application for that name, and once I receive that trademark I could apply for a .ie domain.

A trademark that covers Ireland can take up to a year to be registered - the application alone would not suffice.

I'm not sure what you mean there. According to Register365.com,"Irish, UK, US and Community trademarks need only supply their Trademark Number in the application."

You need the actual trademark number - you don't get the trademark number until they have actually issued it ie. applying for a trademark does not mean that you will get the trademark

Oh, yes, that's the way I understood it. I have no idea how long a US trademark application takes, and ultimately there's no guarantee that I would obtain either the trademark, and ultimately the .ie domain. Thanks.
