Whats the crack with .govs in Ireland? Possible, ever used etc? Would it help or not ?

Is .gov.ie not used? is it not possible to set this up? im nearly sure i have seen it used. And if its not it should be

For the love of god, I am posting on an irish webmaster forum why wouldnt people just take it for granted that I was talking about .gov.ie and inform me about that instead
