Default How much is my domain name worth ?

Guys, I'm trying to come to a figure with regards to how much my domain name is worth ... AlbumShopper.com

I've seen the appraisal services online, but there seems to be an element of snake oil salesmanship involved.

How do you accurately gauge the monetary value of a domain name such as this one ? What do you think it'd be worth (based on what experience) ?

I'm doing up a report and a ballpark figure of domain name worth would be very useful ...

    Thanks,

Like anything ... it's demand vs supply

If the domain is a single word ie. dictionary word or very short it's going to be worth more than one which is longer / more obtuse

In your case I wouldn't see the domain as being that valuable, as I can't imagine people searching for the two terms , but that's just my opinion

As Adam Smith stated, a Product is worth what the market is willing to pay. A company I know paid £87.5k for "fly.co.uk" in an auction about a year or so ago. They now estimate it's worth more - because someone wants to buy it and has offered more. You could argue that your site is worth whatever the highest amount you've already been offered for it up to this point. What also makes it worth more is the visitor traffic levels and lots of high SERP's for competitive keywords.

I chose a name for a new ebusiness venture a couple of years ago based on a number of factors, one of which included domain name availability. This was also a two word domain. The .com of the domain was registered to a company in the states a number of years previously, but from my research there was no record of a website at the address which led me to believe it may have been used primarily for email at some point. Anyway I proceeded to acquire the rest of the domains which were all available, leaving me to worry about the .com another day. Some months later, I decided to attempt to acquire the domain so I commissioned GoDaddy.com to complete a domain name appraisal for me to find out how much it was worth so that I could make a reasonable offer. They came back to me with a value of between $960.00 - $2,960.00 USD. To determine this they use a chart like the following to get a value for the domain.

    Factors, Value, Rating (Scale:1=Low, 5=High)
Top Level Domain (TLD) COM 5
    Length 13 3
    Number of Words 2 4
    Number of Hyphens 0 5
    Numeric Characters 0 5
    Desirability 213 213
    ( Scale: 0.0 - Infinity )

After getting this guide price, I used a Domain Buy Agent to begin negotiations with the owner and made an opening offer of $1,500 as far as I remember. This offer was declined, but they were kind enough to provide me with an asking price of $252,000.00 USD for the domain. Being a little strapped for cash that day I was forced to withdraw from the negotiations. I decided to simply proceed with the project and hopefully one day restart negotiations if and when that kind of surplus cash became available!

The bottom line is that a domain may be worth a lot to some people, and little or nothing to others. In my opinion you would be in a stronger position to sell it i you owned the entire family of domains and sold them as a set.

    Good luck.

You don't. There is no way to estimate the value of a domain. it's all up to the how much the buyer is willing to pay, how much the buyer likes the name or is in love with it

I got my fingers burnt at the beginning of the year with domaining so be careful
As others have said a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay
There are a lot of success stories buy more failures

if interested in domaining then I recommend the following sites

    Namepros.com ( message forum)
Namebio.com (lists previous sales based on criteria you put in)
sedo.com (auction site the biggest of its kind )

If you search "Album Shopper" in Google adwords keyword tool, it returns "not enough data" for monthly search volume. So, There is no chance of any good amount of traffic there. So, Unless some domainer thinks that domain is cool as hell and is willing to pay whatever amount you tell them, that domain is not more than the regular registration price.

if it was albumshop.com would be worth more... but shopper makes the domain sound funny and this keyword combination is not highly searched.

Maybe can get a few hundred if you hold out for somebody

My guess is that you should be happy with $20 or so
