Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the IEDR's stance is on adult domains. I looked up sex.ie and saw that it was suspended in the whois (https://billing.blacknight.ie/order/...ain=sex&ext=ie)

Is that because it was adult related?

In a word - no.

They have a very odd stance on "adult" domains, as they will judge the proposed domain name not its content.

For example you cannot register the domain porn.ie - believe me I've been trying (more to prove a point than anything else)

Basically if the words that make up the domain name are not "offensive" they will let you register it, but if they think the word is offensive they won't

IEDR should let those go if a customer wants to do so. They sell irish domains to UK companies without any problems, so why those ones will be a problem. somehow those type of websites will never vanish anyway. I am against them but can we stop them? No.

So, does that mean you can register a .ie name, and host an adult site as long as the server is not in Ireland? Or have I misunderstood that?

I am against certain pornography. Adult store for toys or whatever tickle your fancy, I am alright with it.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, but pornography has been around for thousand of years and isn't going to go away

Yes, I think as a race of people we are sexually inhibited and hypocritical when it comes to something like the sex industry. We close our eyes and pretent it's not there. If you look at what’s happening in the UK now (brothels are been legalised). By making it legal the authorities can control it and keep the gangsters out. Driving it underground doesn’t do anybody any good.

The same can be said for the web, Irish webmasters in the adult industry should be allowed to create and host their sites in Ireland. What message are we sending out to the rest of Europe? When we are even afraid to say the word “sex.ie”

There's a lot of prudish attitudes out there.

Whether or not I would want to host hardcore content on our network or not should be a pure business decision and not a mixture of business vs morals vs perception vs $irish thing

It should be a case of following Irish law. And there are serious ethical issues; the porn industry is, in many cases, extremely exploitative. I'm just as glad to see the (legally vague) ban remain in place, to be honest.
