Thread: .cn blocks foreign registrants AND registrars

This should have quite an effect on the numbers of registered .cn domains. The extension was always a bit bubblish though and it is a very high risk strategy for CNNIC. It is easy for a ccTLD to move from managed to open but it is very difficult to move from a largely open registration model to a managed one where some level of entitlement has to be proven.

New registrations will probably flatline.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the namespace shrinks, as I doubt if any foreign domain investors are going to hold on to many of their names after this.
