tried implementing realex yet?
soon as they do that and/or speed it up a bit, it'll be ready to hit the shelves on irish ecommerce sites...

I won't be using realex live payments so it doesn't matter to me.. speed is the biggest concern.

besides that, i am sure you can see why i wanted to use it rather than zen or oscommerce

Shouldn't be that hard to do the realex bit ... to be honest they have their system pretty well documented .. I'm surprised they've not done it already.

I put together a module for another TPS company before and that was handy enough.

Speed doesn't seem to be that big an issue...

Going to be sticking with paypal for the client for the moment as thats all they want. Nice and simple ... and they'll be having a fairly low volume of traffic

Looking at it .. hmm... it could be hacked to do it ... but I'd guess there would be quite a bit of work involved in that.

ah, I could make a module for magento, but I haven't the interest or the time, and if I did, I'd probably have a hole in the dam anyway, so best to keep my fingers away.

For the record, I'll be using Saved CC numbers, and then process them as the orders about to leave the house. Speed can be an issue in the backend when saving stuff, and also processing ordersin the backend.

In the frontend, pages that are fuill of products can also take some time to load. Not saying it's slow, but it would be nice if it was quicker.

As for features, Magento is a dream. Everything you could possibly want is in there. Of course ZennyCart is more developed and has more modules, but Magento hit the scene, and give it a year and it will be overflowing with modules, and extensions.

Funny I was like the magento website is excellent then a bit of hunting later I discover its a Expression Engine driven site .

Looks like a good product though, would be good if they migrated Magento and EE.

You can indeed.

Had it installed on my Windows Vista machine under an apache webserver, and the latest WAMP. Tested it out, but of course that was useless, because it didn't serve the purpose i wanted (that everyone at work could update as well)

So then I installed it on a domain on a website I was parking, as a test site. The site in question being hosted on a shared hosting package in Bluehost.com Had about fifty products added in. Not real products, just test ones. Was messing around in the tables one night, and yes, oops, i was tired, I deleted a couple of tables/rows accidently. So i just deleted it and left it be.

now I have it running on a .com domain. Creating all the products and settings in there. It's still slow, but it is slow in general. I am moving onto a VPS package in the next 4-6 weeks, so all will be fixed then. I will just migrate the data onto the new server and i expect speeds to double.

Just a quick survey really, but besides Forbairt and myself, who else has tried Magento?

Some people appear that they haven't given Magento a chance to flaunt it's ability, it truly is magnificent software, and if you have the right hosting(unlike me, who has crap hosting atm), you will be amazed.

My advice is to give it a go

I had a quick mess around one of the earlier releases a while back, but it wasn't for a live project. I downloaded the latest release a yesterday and want to check out how easy it is to work with the templates over the next few days (...or weeks depending on everything else!)

Have you found it easy to customise to your own design?
