. just throwing this out there ... thinking of doing a project, setting up a Ecommerse site with paypal first and upgrade if feasible. Half for the learning curve. I was then thining of buying something and seeing can I flog it, ....whatever, something relativly small that can be stored at home, coffee keeps springing to mind has anyone else tried this at such a fickle level, would it be worth the time without any marketing budget except time .etc. So anybody out there selling that does not have a shop, or does not work full time work in that industry .etc ?

If you could find a niche that wasn't well served there's no reason why you couldn't do it ... The main problem I have (as a buyer) is slow delivery times (ten days for coffee from Dublin to Carlow is insane, when I can get it from the UK in 3 days!)

not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve, is this special coffee you cannot by from a supermarket? Anything can be sold on line but it needs to be a niche to succeed or else bigger and better than whats out there already.

You should consider becoming an ebay power seller, we buy a some American foody type things from a big ebay seller that can't be got on this side of the Atlantic.

This is really how long is a piece of string type of question or more like "how can I make money on the web :-)))". If you don't go the e-bay route then setting up a speciallity site is the 'easy' part really. You need to spend a lot of work in making the site relevant and also making it visible on Google Page Rankings. This is where the hard work is as you may design a great site but not have any visitors :-) A friend of mine set up an Affiliate site last year pushing visitors to Amazon and made some money around the Christmas period but he spent a lot of hours (100+) working on making sure his rankings were high all through the Christmas period. I would suggest htat you try ebay or affiliates first and work on the SEO and rankings below first.... I would read a bit about SEO and page rankings if you are going to try and sell speciallity widgets within Ireland and develop a tester site to see the traffic - and good luck. Kieran

I buy on ebay, not sell, but those that do can do very very well. I know people who have full time jobs just in selling on ebay. If your product is very niche then you have a good chance of doing well. My advice stick a few items up on ebay and see how it goes, what have you got to lose?
