my host didnt have an IPF record setup and since i was having problems sending a mailer out with hotmail sending it to the junk folder i got it setup but it made no difference.
i think it helps with mail but its not the final answer.
although hotmail must have the nastiest filters

Hotmail and some of the other webmail providers have been forced to really clamp down.

A lot would depend on the type of mail you were sending, so without knowing what you were doing it would be quite hard to advise you

    Two things:

1 - A properly configured mail server won't allow unauthorised users
2 - You control the DNS for the domain, so they can't use the A record

You could, but you shouldn't have to if you are using SMTP-auth or similar, which means that only authenticated users are allowed to relay

    What is your SMTP?
