Good move. I'm happy, although Saturday might work better than Friday.

I'll ping Eoghan and see if he's progressed his idea also.

Thanks for that, Richard. Sorry to leave you hanging, guys. I'm just off the phone with Ken.

The thought of free beer completely obscured one very obvious problem: no bar, hotel or other suitable venue would ever let us bring our own beer! The guy that wants to sponsor OpenBeer would be giving us crates of the stuff he imports, so we'd need somewhere to drink it. If anyone has any bright ideas, I'm all ears. But if not, I better let you guys do your own thing!

That's a shame, unless we rented a hall or something similar but that could outweigh the price of beers and given the relatively low number of people likely to show it doesn't look feasible.

What do people think of
Café En Seine
Capitalbars.com - The Capitals Bars

Its not the cheapest place to get a beer and it does tend to get very busy on Saturday's (only been once mind you) but its relatively large and very lush inside. Might be a bit loud also. Not sure if they would arrange a private area or not would have to call?

My Dublin pub experience is quite limited (don't laugh).

I also think these places are nice:

InDublin | Dublin Venues | Dublin Restaurants | Solas (Wexford St)
InDublin | Dublin Venues | Dublin Pubs | Anseo

However again they might be a bit loud and crowded.

I wouldn't have thought it would be too busy if you had an early start, say 1 or 2pm.

I'd be very surprised if you could book a space in Cafe en Seine on a Saturday as they tend to be very busy all weekend.

Eoghan and I held the OpenBeer Club at the Excise Bar in the IFSC last year. It was pretty good in that it wasn't busy, we were able to book some space and they did finger food and stuff. Might be worth a shout.

I 2nd the Excise Bar. Good spot for this kind of thing.
* My favoritism has nothing to do with the fact that I live 10 minutes walk from this pub. Nothing I tells ya.

Edit/
Maybe if it were opened, it would be a good choice

Sh1te - that was a good spot the last time around.

We need somewhere that is NOT popular or trendy if this is going to be a Saturday night. Anyone else know of Excise-type bar that will be suitable? I think we'll get quite a few people at this.

The Vaults (also IFSC) is another weeknight pub so although I haven't been there on a Sat, I'm sure there'll be loads of space. I will be in there this evening so I will ask the barstaff for confirmation.

Well I know that the bar across the other side of the square, Laguna, take bookings for private parties on a Saturday night. If you can get enough people then they'll book the entire venue for you.
