Hey from New York ... I've ended up making the change over to a Mac (couldn't resist with the dollar / euro ratio) ... next I'll be getting CS3 as I've only got photoshop CS 2 at the moment and the web dev premium suite seems like a good plan.

(throwing up a big forbairt logo on the background should be enough .. yes its an irish word ... no ... if it was bought in america it wouldn't be able to display irish

I'd be interested to see what you think after using a MAC for a while. I want to switch also, but haven't quite got around to it yet.

Did you go with a Macbook Pro or just a Macbook?

I haven't been to NY yet, can't wait to see it though.

gone with the 15inch pro ... 17inch was just a bit too big to be practical ...

So far so good .. I spent a bit of time in the apple store in SoHo ... which really got me up to speed on a lot of the things .... it also made me realise I prefer the keyboard ... ... the extra 2 inches on the macbook was a factor as well ... I'll upgrade from the 2gb ram in this machine when I get back ... it was a bit pricey to go the full 7200 RPM drive and 4gb ram ...

CS3 will be the only change with the mac keys but it should be fine

Apart from that I'm quite comfortable with Shell access (Terminals) .. I've installed a few bits and pieces (skype) ... I won't be getting office or iworks though .... so we'll see open office will be the way to go ...

this is day 2 with the mac book pro ... the other half loves it so mac is probably the way to go (for me at the moment)

A challenge will be to install Eclipse ... though I may move to some mac code editor

Give me a shout when you're in Dublin if you're looking for some Mac assistance. You'll learn loads by your own but if you have someone showing you stuff for even an hour, you'll learn even loadisizer.

I am extremely impressed I have to say by the setup of the stores ... the free tutorials .... the level of staff knowledge ... and the general all round Apple buzz in each of the Apple stores just visited the SoHo and I guess their main one as well (didn't like their main store so much as I found it was just too crowded) the SoHo one was a lot better ... attended a beginners guide to Leopard ... which while basic ... gave a few of the extra features I wouldn't have realised existed .... the Photoshop CS3 session was pretty cool as well .. actually gave me some insight into levels that I didn't have before

I agree totally that having someone show you things is great .. hence its been very handy to play with the macs in store before buying and also picking about 5 different sales staffs brains with everything from opening terminals to apple care popping up

The exchange rate is pretty sweet alright. I picked up my MacBook in Chicago last month for a fraction of what it would have cost me here.
