| Hopefully someone may have some wisdom for my predicament: I recently bought a brand new PC (2GB RAM, Dual Core etc.) from Komplett.ie. All went well and the custom-built PC and my monitor arrived in 6 days! However, problems arose when it randomly shut down at any time! So, naturally I sent a support request and I updated them with the different situations it crashed. They requested I send the graphics card, which I did and which tested fine. Then, I sent the WHOLE PC back to them for testing. After 1.5 weeks I emailed them for an update and they said it was in testing. Then, and here is the killer: They said the PC had tested fine and was being sent back. Despite my protests it was sent back. They said it was in testing for long enough but obviously don't understand "random" shutdown! So in the end I was without the PC for 3 weeks and have the same random-shutdown PC that I started with. Anyone have any advice what to do next? |

| https://smallclaims.courts.ie/esmall...nguage=English File a small claims court thing. You most likely won't have to go to court, they'll just refund you.

| "random" shutdowns are usually caused by overheating. I had a computer which used to do that a lot, which I managed to fix by thinking hard about how airflow in a computer works. Keep the PCI cards as far from each other as possible. Do not leave any open slots at the back - that actually impedes the airflow. Check your ACPI settings (power control - dunno the Windows for that) - you might have your temperature controls a bit off. |

| "random" shutdowns can be caused by a lot of factors: the one mentioned above by Kae faulty motherboard wrong voltage supplied to the mother board fot some parts. etc... My advice - don't try to fix it yourself. It is still under waranthy. Try to get your money back and if you can not built it yourself then go to Find a Notebook, Desktop, Server, Printer, Software, Service, Monitor or TV at Dell. or Shop On-Line @ PCN Computers Ltd.

| Thanks guys, I doubt it's overheating because it has died at the login screen, before doing anything. I have thought about it being a power surge or the like but it's so often and our other home PC is on alot and never has this problem. There's supposedly a 3 year warranty on the PC from Komplett. Even if I could get a refund, nothing I found on Dell could come even close to what I wanted for the same money as on Komplett. |
