    Default Google weirdness

This is something I haven't seen before....

Working on a new website & beside all the tables in the DB, I also have a page logging table which records every visitor movement through the website by mine (based on IP address).

Nothing weird about that, but anytime I access a page, I get 2 records added into the table from this IP address "66.249.70.106" that belongs to Goggle with the exact URL I am visiting.

I had the feeling is the Google toolbar (using IE), but didn't think Google included a crawler into it... so I open Opera browser which doesn't have the toolbar installed but has the Google search form built into the browser itself & same thing happens...

If I echo the IP into the page to make sure the "if...then...else" statement work right (based on my ip) nothing comes up on the page...

    Can anyone confirm this weirdness?

Are you seeing this for all requests or only your own?
Sounds very odd, but maybe try it from another browser/puter and see what happens. Are the requests to the same URL btw (you request URLa and also IP requests URLa?). Have you anything else running on your machine from Google? You dont have their web optimizer thingie for speeding up web access by any chance?

As the website is not launched yet, only my own and I do not have the accelerator installed.
I have tried FF, Opera, IE & Safari - all doing the same thing.
Is not just one page but it follows me around as I browse the website.

If it was anything from my computer, I suppose it should have my IP attached to it but it doesn't:

    e.g.
    ip: 66.249.70.106
    host: crawl-66-249-70-106.googlebot.com
    useragent: Mediapartners-Google

Looking at the log files again, it looks like it follows other users as well (website not launched but it does show it the serps for certain queries):
    USER DATA:
    ip: 89.100.*.*
    host: 089-100-0*0*.ntlworld.ie
    date: 2008-12-01
    time: 21:18:13
    agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1)
URL: Audi | OEM Car Parts | CarsNParts.ie

    AND 2 SECONDS LATER:

    ip: 66.249.70.106
    host: crawl-66-249-70-106.googlebot.com
    date: 2008-12-01
    time: 21:18:17
    agent: Mediapartners-Google
URL: Audi | OEM Car Parts | CarsNParts.ie

That's Google's Adsense/Adwords bot AFAIK. Not sure if that helps.
