I have Vista (Business Edition) here on one of my PCs. It's totally not the resource hog people say it is.

It's grand, but I see no need to upgrade. I use a PC for e-mail, browsing, office and coding. XP handles all of that fine for me...

Over the summer when I format my desktop I'll finally put Vista on it (Have my copy from the Croke Park thing sitting there waiting to be used)

An update on my Vista progress...

I've been running it alongside my XP machine for the last couple of months. I finally switched over completely last week. Transferring all my mail and files was easy enough although Dreamweaver had some trouble importing my site definitions and I had to quickly upgrade to CS3 to sort that out.

Vista (so far) on a brand new machine is much slower than my old XP machine which was less than half as powerful. I find that running Dreamweaver CS3 alongside Outlook 2007 makes the machine crawl and often Firefox takes forever to bootup. I'm hoping that SP1 will sort most of these issues out.

I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo (6600), a 750 GB SATA Hard drive and an nVidia 8800 PCE-E card. Now I've only 1GB of Crucial Ballistix Ram and VISTA is a memory monster even with a lot of visuals turned down.

The only weakspot there is the RAM so I have another 4GB on the way. Hopefully this will get the speed back to acceptable levels.

1GB is the min requirements for Vista, so you should notice the improvement. Have you used the Flash boot facility ? That might speed things up a little in the meantime.

I won't upgrade until I have to.
My PC could handle it, but why should I?
I don't yet see an advantage in using Vista.

I could have gotten Vista free from Dell, I only needed to pay postage, which was too much for me to be honest. I'll stick with XP until I have to change, then I might switch to an alternative.

Hi There,

I have been using Vista (Ultimate) 32bit edition for the last 4 or so months .
I prefer it over XP and generally I find it a lot faster than XP for most daily applications.

I did notice a decrease in gaming speeds (BF2 fan!! ) but other than that I think its great . Once the graphic card manufacturers get tweaking their drivers it 'should' be up to the same speeds as XP for gaming .

I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo (6600), a 750 GB SATA Hard drive and an nVidia 8800 PCE-E card. Now I've only 1GB of Crucial Ballistix Ram and VISTA is a memory monster even with a lot of visuals turned down.

You definately need at least 2GB of RAM with that spec. I would even go for 3GB if you can afford it . Even for XP , 1GB of RAM is not quite enough if you intend on running multiple applications.

BTW it will be replaced in another few years by Windows Vienna.

Kind Regards

Hmmm , maybe I will give it another go. It was fun but at the time I found the player audience to be very young .. is it still the same ?

I will not upgrade to vista in a couple of year.
Because the xp can meet my need on office work.
And my home machine is old,it only can run xp an linux.

Vista

Vista might be a long term investment but for now..this drm feature or "brother knows best" is more than annoying..I can't even make a copy of a cd I own for backup purposes - I always scratch mine or lose them - or they get "borrowed"..(hrumph!)

I think my option of a dual-boot with Windows XP is fine for now.

(Get back Bill!)

i fix a lot of pc problems for people - used to do it for part time cash for 4 or 5 years - i would seriouly caution people to try vista before you buy it. My experience is this - i have fixed various problems ( remove virus/install bb/setup email etc) on about 5 or 10 vista m/c's and i almost always ended up tearing my hair out - of course this has happened with xp also but not to anywhere the same degree
it is slower than xp, asks for permission and warns you (by default) at every turn and is a change for the worst in several areas ( little things that were fine in xp have now changed for some reason that escape me) loads of software doesnt work with it - mobile broadband is hit and miss as to whether it will install - and all for what .... a cooler interface is the only plus i can see. If i had to buy a new machine i would factor in another 100 and install a dual boot xp and use that instead...... wow i didnt know i hated it so much :D
