I was just browsing around and came across my Google Page Rank - it's 4/10. The site is only live since November and I'm building traffic and back links slowly but surely.

What I'm wondering is... is a 4/10 that good? I had a look at a few others from on here:

RedCardinal - 6/10
Blacknight - 6/10
RedFly - 7/10

Why have I gotten a 4/10? I really don't think I have that many inward links. Lots from my sigs on boards and IWF and from a few other sites (some clients) but in general, why have I gotten this... or more importantly, what would it take to get to a 7/10 spot and knock redfly off the top spot for "web design ireland" seach results in Google (hee hee... may as well aim high!).

I don't know whether to be happy with a 4 or not!

PR0-4 is relatively easy to get. When you go above 4 it gets a little trickier - then you have to get some juicy and highly relevant backlinks.

Dave (RFS) has a very good backlink profile of both natural and paid links (you do have a few paid ones in there don't you Dave?). I would suggest you look at what Dave has done if you want to try to rank as well. I'll just warn you that it will take time and a lot of work to replicate his rank.

Blacknight would have a huge amount of natural backlinks I imagine as 1) they sell hosting, and 2) Michele has a very high on-line profile.

PR4 is fine for the moment - sure my site was PR4 before the last update.
