Default Mobile development

Since we had an influx of people, thought I might drag up this old question.

Besides me (plug, plug) who else has had mobile development experience? Or has it been something that people only dabble in?

Do you mean optimising sites for mobile devices. Perhaps that question answers your question

To be honest, I downloaded a white paper from the W3C site the other day as I wanted to get into it in the new year, but as yet haven't found time to read it!

I'd say it's going to be a big area over the next few years.

Do you mean to run as standalone on a handheld?
It's never something I've looked into or heard around - I always saw it as quite a specialised area. Is there much work there?

I looked into accessing a web app over a PDA for a support system, which included getting signatures which would be uploaded as images to the server. Did a good bit of research and testing into it last year but didn't implement it in the end. Other than that, I haven't had a need for it. Will keep you in mind if I do need something like that again (don't have time to learn these days! ) - plug objective achieved!

My view is that this is going to get quite hot. Of course, this being Ireland we wont even know what mobile websites are for at least 10 years.

Now hopefully someone will want to buy some of thsoe .mobi's I have [cough]squatted[/cough] sitting around

There's an Irish cmpany that's quite active in the mobile space but I cant find the bloody link. They ave an app that reads those Japanese barcode thingies and another that emails content to friends.

They're quite active also in the deck management area which is targeted at operators.

If anyone knows who they are I would love to find them again

About two years ago I was involved with some series 60 development work. We wrote two applications. One that replaced some abandoned OS project and another that sent anonymous SMS messages.

Never took off. Market wasn't ready at the time. After college, software development kind of lost interest with me. Although, I still have a love for good ole C. (Not ++)

Are you working on something yourself?
