hi guys
does it matter if a site is hosted in ireland or the usa? for the purposes of page rank by google that is? its a .ie site.
after doing a dig and whois i discovered that my own host is actually a reseller for an american server. would this be hurting my listing here in ireland?

you should ask ... for SEO ... not page rank

Hmm.. being .ie will tell google you're an irish website. Being on an american server won't do great things (should be countered somewhat by the .ie) ... ideally you'd have the .ie and be hosted in ireland.

It depends on the hosting itself as well.
I recently took over a site that had been on very cheap hosting in the US. Looking at the logs the site appears to have been unavailable a lot more often than it was available, so it hasn't been indexed properly!

have had major problems in the past with Dreamhost in the US ... and their down time ... also felt like they were heavily overloading their servers ..

Response times will be down ... which ultimately will lead to a worse end user experience.
