Default Streaming and hosting an FLV

Have been looking around for flv streaming services to host some flash video but I'm amazed at the prices with entry level hosting often coming in at about 50 Euro per month and only 100 MB of space and very low monthly data-transfer too.

Any suggestions...buy our own server and purchase Adobe streaming server etc?

We've been looking at this for a year, and have had no joy with it. There are no cheap solutions to this.

The company we use is Unique Media TV - Live and On-demand Webcasting, Media Hosting and Video Production for streaming live cameras in wmv format (yeah, I know). Don't host any media with them so I don't know if they manage flv's.

We are currently looking at our own server and flash media server, which is quite expensive option, but is only a one off cost.

Adobe don't offer any solutions for ISP / hosting providers, so it's very hard for anyone to do it cheaply....

Dave - do you have an example (URL) of your stuff?

Purchasing a dedicated server and our own Adobe licence is not an option at the moment as it's not a commercial project. But out of interest - what figures (bacllpark) would we be looking at?

Peter

Some examples:
Clonard Monastery -- ChurchServices.tv
Mount Argus Stream -- ChurchServices.tv
They stream live 24 hours a day, and there is sound when there is a service on.

We have had a huge level of positive response to the service that we are going to expand it. We are going to go with a flash streaming server and a complete overhaul of the site.

The software license for flash streaming server is €4800.00 ex vat
This supports 150 concurrent users, to support more you need extra licenses. That doesn't include the cost of the server itself, or the development costs.

Thanks for the URLs. Great use of a webcam.

I must look into the Adobe software. If videos have a reasonably small, licence cost associated with them then the adobe streaming server is probably more realistic.

or we could find an interested party and go 50/50 etc.

Thanks.

We are working on the details of setting up a service to stream in flash using the flash streaming server. We hope to be able to offer on that service and storage space to others.

I forgot to mention there is an open source flash streaming server Red5 : Open Source Flash Server Open Source Flash
I don't know anything about this though.

I set up a flash video system for a company I worked for before. After weeks of reviewing hosts I decided to go with Flash Media Server Hosting - Influxis Flash Media Server 2 Hosting Specialists There rates were okay and you got to choose where to host your videos (usa or england) they also provided all the video players for use. They offer many flash applications designed for use on there servers. All in all there very good. But like all flv hosts, it is pricey.
