The software he wants to use CANNOT go on a shared server due to the specific ports it needs access to. Of course some shared hosting providers might allow access to those ports, but I doubt if any of the bigger or more serious ones would

| Hi Blacknight, Hope you are well. I'm interested in your VPS Options for €60-80 /month* What do i get for this? Would it include everything listed below that i need? I currently use Basic Unix Plan Shared Hosting but need to access Files/Folders on all my domains (& copy files from one domain to another) like a Dedicated Server and from reading about VPS, this seems possible. I currently work with and mess around with 10 MySQL Dbases, 8 Domains and 3 Subdomains. (Apache Web Server, PHP 4.1 or higher, phpMyAdmin - 2.11.0, MySQL client version: 4.1.15, Zend Optimser, ImageMagick, Cron, Curl) - I have also found a nifty MySQL Gui Program (Navicat 8.0) to administer MySQL Databases that connects on Port 3306) On patches/updated for VPS servers. Is it up to me to preform same or do you also have a managed service fee for this? Also, what is the best way to transer domains from one provider to yourselves and minimum downtime etc. Thanks S Last edited by sullyman1; 17-06-2008 at 06:41 PM. |

| guess it'd depend on your requirements .. but you should be fine with that ... to minimise downtime ... lower the TTL on any domains you are transferring over (are you changing your registrar as well ? ) set up EVERYTHING ... on the systems before you move over onto them ... you'll be able to add them to the system ... its quite cool one you get fiddling in there with what you've got ... you've shell access so technically you've got your own machine to do whatever you want with ... 3306 is also the standard mysql port ... so I wouldn't see it as being too much of a problem But the powers that be can probably answer a lot better than I can
