Default Testing a Server

Recently I've been getting a few reports of pages not found via my Google Webmaster Tools and I thought this might possibly be something to do with the server. Is there any straighforward ways of testing a server to see if there are any issues with it?

it's possibly a headers problem : Check Server Headers Tool - HTTP Status Codes Checker

btw you should sort our your canonical URL problem.

Thanks Paul,

I got a "HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 200 OK", which I think means it is OK, although to be honest there was plenty of other technical jargon in there which I didn't understand and might have told me that the server was about to implode.

Had to look up "canonisation" and I think I see what you mean... will look into fixing it ( I found Cleaning Up Canonical URLs With Redirects - Social Patterns interesting).

Pretty handy too that. I found a few broken links that I think are redirects, I think that might be something to do with the problem. I didn't do the PHP end of things so I'll have to get in contact with the person who did. It might have stemmed from an update on the server from PHP 4 to PHP 5.

Cheers.
