Default 301 redirects - how long?

I set up a 301 redirect about a month ago having changed a directory name for SEO purposes. Does anyone know what the lifespan is for redirects so that Google doesn't punish you? Is it okay to remove them once the new directory/path is cached by Google?

The 301 will also transfer any SE benefit (e.g. pagerank) from the old to the new. If you want to retain this then you should keep the redirect almost indefinitely, or at least until the new content has built up trust & links etc.

Google wont ever punish you, just remove some additional benefit you may get from a 301.

Default How do I export my indexed pages to set up 301 redirects?

Hi there,

I'm trying to figure out how to export the pages currently indexed by Google and Yahoo! to apply 301 redirects when a new site goes live. I've used the site: command to identify the pages in the index, but beyond Yahoo! exporting the list 50 at a time to a .tsv file, I can't seem to figure out how to export them all en masse to either .tsv, or preferably .csv.
Should I use an XML sitemap generator and just 301 everything, indexed or no?

Any input much appreciated, as always.

Grab gsitecrawler (www.gsitecrawler.com), spider the site. It will give you a complete list of your URLs. I think there is an option to check for which pages are indexed.

If you have a large site take care - 301's can take many weeks to kick in (I've been waiting 7 weeks on one site for a few pages to fall out). Depends on how much juice you have with Google initially.

Can be as well to do this in batches and let crawlers acclimatise to the new structure and redirects.
