Default Latent semantic analysis

Latent semantic analysis or Latent semantic indexing (wiki)

I was wondering if anybody has had success or failure with applying the principles of LSI to their web pages. I have been tracking a couple of pages mine (after making the relevant changes) to see the effects in the search engines. I have noticed some movement; however, I cannot tell if this was from deep linking or LSI.

Nichebot (aff, but feel free to remove ) now has a Google powered LSI tool. They have a nice video explaining how to use the Adwords suggestion tools to generate LSI based keyword lists. I cant find it on the site at the minute

I hate math myself, if I could summarise the wiki in relation to SEO, If you had a page optimised for the keyword “pasta”

Page text:

Joe’s pasta shop at the top of Rathgar road specialises in great pastas. All our pastas are made to the highest quality at the best pasta prices in town.

As you can see the above text is pushing the word “pasta”

Page text after LSI:

Joe’s pasta shop at the top of Rathgar road specialises in great pasta. Our linguini and spaghetti dishes are to die for. Special offer all this week on macaroni.

This text now contains words associated to pasta such as linguini, spaghetti and macaroni. So the major search engines which have LSI built into their algorithm will place the second piece of text higher on their index for the keyword pasta.

Links, anchor text, trust and relevancy have a greater effect than on-page stuff IMO.

The SEs are unlikely to move away from this I think. LIS may be a factor, but just one of many.

I have been using nichebot for the past month or so Richard and I have to say, I am really REALLY not impressed.

The 4 in 1 tool is amazing. It looks well, and the lists it generates were exactly what I needed. Until I ran tests using PPC campaigns using the lists.

I have a full report ready on this, but I am letting the campaign run out using the remaining factor tweaks.

Honestly, this month, I have had the best results with the adwords keyword tool.

Sorry about that Dave. Nichebot is just repackaging the Keyword Discovery data stream, which of course wont be as relevant for Ireland (there's no good tool for Ireland apart from a PPC campaign targeted at Ireland alone.. )

But with keyword research it is important not to rely on any one source. I use at least one other paid tool. I am quite interested to see your results though.

Is the campaign limited in geographical scope?
