To me SEO is creating a site that is friendly towards the Search Engines, nothing more and nothing less. Yes there is extra bells & whistles to the whole industry but I don't think they are essential for a site to rank well. If the content is good enough people will link to it "naturally" which we know helps climb the ranks.

I probably dont give myself enough credit even when I have sites that rank in the top 5 of Google for good keywords. There again, most of my SEO tasks are done on-page and there is only so much of that you can actually do.

My biggest friend in SEO is the age factor.

Where there are no clear rules or metrics - there is Fluff. And "SEO" - is about as fluffy at fluff gets.

Follow the guidelines the search engines give, make your pages easy to navigate for humans foremost, and provide useful information people would share and or get some benefit from. Get SEO'd slowly is what i say.

Interesting read and once you crack the PPC you would think SEO is dead in the water or at least a waste of time. One site that I use with PPC gets very little SEO attention, I know its wrong but time is restricted so it will have to do.

PPC should be used to COMPLIMENT SEO. With PPC you have cold hard facts on what works and what doesn't. When you know what works, what keywords convert (It's usually not the ones you think!) what landing page copy is best, THEN SEO the life out of it and you have a super site until you have an organic beast.

You can then afford to up your bid prices and play around with position preference.

Oh totally agree. I usually make sure that I can get a site indexed and ranked before I start using PPC on it but just for this one site I decided go straight for the PPC on it, the results have been out standing.

Once I do get the time the SEO side of things will need to be done just in case the PPC funds dry up.

Slightly offtopic ...

Glengara - please use the "quote" button. It makes it about ten times easier to read your posts.

Thanks
