| hi Guys As you may have seen in other posts I made a few make shift web sites on godaddy.com for my self defense classes in thailand where I am based right now. as I said before the site Krav Maga Self Defence Thailand Bangkok Pattaya Thailand Martial Arts is makeshift until the web pro has finished, so do not expect a master bit of work! anyway I made the site on godaddy.com and I added in keywords, like Krav Maga Thailand, Self Defence Thailand, Martial Arts Bangkok etc...loads of them... I submitted my URL to google, and yahoo and msn and that open directory dmoz thing (some how I do not think I got listed in there) anyway I notice when I go into Google and search the web, my site (or sites...I did a few other ones, and linked them...some experts say not to do this...some say to do it....so I went with doing it)...anyway... I come up under google alot on 1st page, but if I search google thailand I do not come up, or I come up way pages down. Now I got self defence schools and we swapped links and also I got thailand sites to swap links... I also got an adwords for google, just for Google so I am a bit confused...I want to dominate my local engines...of course no harm coming up on the gobal ones... but its the local ones where I will get customers. I also listed my site, add the URL to a few Thai serach engines written in thai...man that was hard and it took me ages... there probably is an easier wa, but I m learning myself. Any ideas, tips on how I can do better on local rankings? Thanks Gerry |

| Yes, it just hosted on plain old godaddy.com so I should have it hosted by a thai hosting company, or get a co.th thailand address? Thanks Gerry |

| If you want to target Thai traffic then you should get .th domain ...

| right, thats what I will do. I will have to find out how to do that. Thailand is a terrible place for getting things done, its like a beaurcratic mess. Better buy a jar of Valiumn before I embark on this one! LOL! |

| Getting a .th domain seems to be quite straightforward If you are having issues you may want to talk to a company that handles a lot of international domain registrations *cough* *splutter*

| On this topic does anyone know of a tool that lets you: 1) test to see which geo location google thinks ur in 2) pretend to be from somewhere else to test search results (I've tried google test tool in Adwords but it doesn't seem to give me the results I expect) Thanks des |

| Hi Des, Re: Q2: To preview search results and ads as they'd appear in other geographical locations in Google, you can add parameters to your search query. Here's a list of parameters and links to more information about possible values for each parameter: - Target country: use '&gl=aa,' where aa is the country code as listed at Country and Territory Codes (AdWords API Developer's Guide) - Target region: use '&gr=bb-bb,' where bb-bb is the region code as listed at Worldwide Region Codes (AdWords API Developer's Guide) - Target city: use '&gcs=c,' where c is the name of a city. If you use the city parameter, the region parameter must also be set to the region containing the city. For example, to see a search results page for the query 'wedding planner' for users in New York City, the URL would be "http://www.google.com/search?&q=wedding+planner&adtest=on&gr=US-NY&gcs=New York" The adtest=on string ensures that if you are checking up on your Google Adwords, that your tests aren't registering as impressions in the campaign. |
