| Hi, I have been working on my site's ranking for a good while and I was coming up first on google for a few of my search terms and first page for a few more, and I was happy with my progress. But in the last week a really strange thing has happened. When Google displays my site in the search results it shows no description tag, and the title tag is not what I had entered. I have not changed the meta data at all and the text that is shown in the title is not taken directly from anywhere on my website, I know as it is all lower case letters and I always use caps and lowers, and also it doesn't make sense. The only place text like this may have been entered is elsewhere on directories...? display stands - Google Search applied signs - Google Search The page returned in both these results is the home page, but both with different title tags, not written by me! Also underneath the listing it doesn't say 'cached'! which I can't see for any other sites. Someone suggested that it may be google messing around but a similar thing happens in yahoo, although 'home' is displayed as the title. I'm newish to this so maybe I'm missing something really obvious? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Alison. |

| Alison I wouldn't worry too much about how the site is displaying in the search results. What's of greater importance is being found for the keywords / phrases that are of interest to you Michele

| Thanks Michelle, the thing is for a lot of the keyphrases where we coming up on the first page, we are now much further down or nowhere to be found - I presume because now I have no control over the title/description, so my chosen keywords are not necessarily included, and dont match the keywords in the content. Its Cr*p! Hopefully it will change back as suddenly as it changed in the first place! |

| This is sometimes referred to as a 'SERP burp'. If it happens again, the first port of call is the Webmaster COnsole where Google will tell you about crawl issues. These would be the most common reason for falling out of the skies (other than a penalty or ban). Rgds Richard
