I cant remember seeing anything other than the first X characters of you page title. They do mix up the snippet.

My opinion - a lot of people click on whatever is top, whether that's organic or paid, regrdless of what it says. You'll rarely be able to observe it with organic traffic (Google rarely displays non-relevant pages), but it's really noticeable with paid. People are lazy/busy/careless/trusting... when they hit Google.
