    Default Removing old subdomains?

As some of you know I had this forum on forum.search.ie originally before moving it to this domain.

When I made the move to the new domain I put a redirect in place, but maintained the old sub-domain.

The PR updates etc., don't seem to be picking up on the new domain and I'm still seeing long dead URIs in the indices.

So this morning I decided to bite the bullet and remove the A record for forum.search.ie - in other words the subdomain will cease to exist

Are there any knockon effects to this that anyone can think of??

If you have any links in search engines it means you are getting a 404 or domain not found error. That can be good for you. Also I have search.ie bookmarked, and nowI can not use it anymore. Have to change my bookmarks. I know you made the changes so I can do that easy but what about people that doesn't know and think your forums is off line?

you have 741 links in Google. Are you prepared to loose them?

Yes, as they're not helping me.. most of them are to the old forum URIs before I installed the seo module, so they'd give a 404 anyway..

An alternative solution would be for me to shove up a simple "we've moved" page.. Thoughts?

Use a 301 redirect to the index page on this forum instead of 404.
You can customise that page easily.

I already had a 301, but I can't see how I can customise it as the index is the main page of the forum
