Default lack of ranking on Google
It may just be the crap weather, but I'm beginning to get a bit depressed about my lack of page ranking on Google. My site on www.dublinbynumbers.com has been about for months now, but Google does not appear to want to rank it. I think my problems might stem from my lack of high pr links, but I also thought Google might think I am spamming becuse I have the word "Dublin" in too many times. My search box on the left uses options based on Dublin postcodes (Dublin 1, Dublin 2 etc) and I thought maybe this looks a bit spammy to a robot? (see a snippet of the offending code below)

Any ideas or tips would be appreciated (I know there are other problems should as the prominence of embedded javascript and a good few other things that I should try and fix too).

well a search for "dublin by numbers" gives me your site ... so you've not been black listed or whatever.

What are the keywords you're trying to rank well for ?

What inbound links have you been generating ?

No I'm not blacklisted that would be very depressing indeed. In fact I rank OK for some listings like "doctors in dublin 12", but doctors seem to be my best ranking. Ideally I'd like the word "Dublin" and any category I have listed to rank high up on Google. Does your overall pr affect affect your ranking on Google searches anyway?

Links to the site aren't too good, mainly free ones from Gasta (actually I might ask them to remove links to my site), but I'm also on the yahoo directory and the odd forum and blog. I hoped I'd get people linking organically but that hasn't appeared to be the case (with the exception of the GAA map).

Yes inbound links would be nice. How do other people go about getting inbound links (blogging, paid links, press releases) ? I hoped I'd just concentrate on the content and links would follow, but it doesn't seem to be working that way so far.

Have you tried submitting your site to as many directories as possible?

There's a post here somewhere with links to a lot of the Irish and international ones (many being seo-friendly)

Yes, I submitted the site to a few, but I think I may look at submitting it to a few more. First time around I just submitted the site to any old directory, but this time around I think I'll be more picky and concentrate on the more relevant ones.
