Default Site Map Question

Hi,

I'm working on my first site (link) and have a quick question about sitemaps...

My site is split into 6 sections each with its own directory. I link to each section using /sectionname

When i used a sitemap generator it generated links both this way: /sectionname and to the index file /sectionname/index.html which means there are two links to some pages.

Should i leave both sets of links in the sitemap even though they point to the same page or should i just use one?

Also, in general on a site is it OK to leave out the index.html in links or should i always link directly to it (/directory/index.html) for SEO.

Thanks,

Damoth

Best would be to remove the duplicate. As /sectionname/index.html is the actual address of the file, I would leave that in the sitemap. Also you can do a 301 redirect that when someone requests /sectionname/ it will push the browser to /sectionname/index.html

It's fine to link to pages without the index.html. Regarding the sitemap, if the site is small you could always just do the sitemap manually?

I used to use a perl script that ran once a week or so to generate a static html sitemap ... it wasn't pretty, but it worked
