Default Major directories submission

Hi,

Has anyone here submitted their site to the Yahoo Directory? At $299/year, I'd want to be sure that it would drive traffic to my site. Where do people see the benefit - in being listed in the directory and getting clicks that way or by being linked from a highly-valued site and potentially gaining page rank as a result.

Also, how long typically to be accepted into DMOZ (if they accept you at all)?

Thanks,

Yahoo directory it good if you get accepted, but don't expect traffic from it.

DMOZ as above if you manage to get in. It seems nearly impossible now a days.

So, even when you pay your 200 euro, you're still not guaranteed to get in? Hmmm, that's a different proposition.

So, you won't get much traffic directly from the directory then. So, what do you get and why is a place there prized? Is it because they publish the links to their partners and therefore your backlink count can rise exponentially, thereby affecting your page rank and position on the SERP's? Does it help with your position in Yahoo's (and partners) organic search results? My site is targetted at Ireland only though. Will it help me here?

I'd consider it if I was guaranteed a large increase in visitors.

Thanks,

You got that right.
Yahoo hasn't got a strong market for Ireland, and from my point of view it doesn't drive much traffic either. It's more targeted at USA and UK.

Guarantees? What's that?
In business there are risks but not guarantees.

Why don't you spend that $299 on some professional articles that will get you lots of backlinks naturally?

Last time I checked you didn't need to pay to get into Yahoo Ireland. The paid submission was only for Yahoo US

Hi guys, thanks for the responses.

I tend to agree that the money might be spent better elsewhere.

And, yes submission to the Irish Yahoo directory is still free.

Good luck,
John
