It's loadbalanced

Basically they have a setup with multiple web servers. You request the site's URI and you get sent to one of the web servers to view the content, so you could end up on one of the "www" iterations

There are other ways of doing this... where you have multiple A records ... I did this recently for one of our sites

Basically there is one hostname (URL) but it's pointing at multiple IP addresses. When your PC attempts to connect it gets a response from one of them ....

Wouldn't matter - worst case scenario is that only one domain gets indexed. Seen as they're all the same content this would have zero impact.

Well I stuck a randomly chosen phrase into G and got 70 duplicate pages from the site, if this is par for the course I could see G giving them a smack... "These inclue Dwyers Electrical, GardenRooms.ie, eircom" - Google Search

They haven't got any PTR records setup for most of those IPs either, so I can see them having lots of "fun" if the webservers are sending out mail..
