Default Website gone from page 1 to 18!
Hi,

website www.fitzwilliamtownhouse.com has slipped from page 1 to page 18!!! for search term 'guest house dublin' and all major search terms since last Friday. I don't know why this is, if anybody has any ideas on how to fix this I would be very grateful.

I'd say its the hidden text that go you penalized. The meta keyword spam isn't that bad since its ignored more than anything and I think the footer links are ok.

Paul what makes you think the footer links are bad?

When I first looked at it the links at the bottom, they came across as spammy to me.

Hidden text is against the G men's T & C though, so I'd say that was it...

Hidden text is a surefire way of getting yourself penalised.

I'd recommend cleaning up the site ie. removing any of the blackhat stuff and then begging Google to be reconsidered

One flag would be that the sites linked to are involved in either buying/selling links, or (more likely) have some sort of link scheme.

I'd check your logs to see if you might have had a human inspection - I'd say that any Googler who might have looked at your site may have thought that the site was selling links. Sometimes you can spot the human check by the network location of the Google traffic.

One other possibility - Google may have just culled a load of links, and what previously held you on page 1 might have just been zapped.

Thanks for replies. Yesterday at around 5pm the site was back up on page 2 for major search terms and its gone back down again. Does anybody know the reason for this?
