    Default Links from Goldenpages, crap?

    Hi guys,
Just wondering about the SEO benifits on goldenpages.ie

They want €1800 for top listings... Ok so this is a definite NO!

They want €200 for a listing down the page.

Are their links of any use?

I can't see why they'd be any better than any other PR7 directory. Some businesses work better from the Golden Pages anyway. I was so certain when I started writing this that I wouldn't pay €200.00 but its not an awful lot of money - if you got an enquiry a month AND a PR4 link (I presume their search page results have a lower PR than the home page) - it wouldn't be the worst decision

I thought I'd seen web addresses in their search results but I can't reproduce it now - it seems their links aren't of much use

GoldenPages seem to work for some sectors more than others. We advertised with them in the past (both online and offline) and didn't see any benefit from it

In fairness, we do have one website where 33% of the traffic is coming from the golden pages website ... it depends on the industry

I checked to see whether there was any PR on a page delivered from a search on their database, and the answer is a resounding "NO"!

From the home page I entered "web design" and "kildare" into the two search fields and clicked. The page of results had a PR of 0. I returned to their home page, scrolled to the bottom and entered via the categories link. I clicked the "Internet Services" button and chose "Kildare", again the page that was returned had a PR of 0.

So, for the purpose of passing any juice, the site is of no use. However, if it generated one or two decent projects a year, then perhaps it might be of some use. Personally, I never use the thing, so I wouldn't be keen to pay for inclusion.

If you did see a contract or two from it – be nice!

I am working with a company- was looking at their server logs and looking at their keywords – the company name is fairly unusual and it’s a ‘name’.

The logs show that a lot of traffic is coming from keyword searches bases on or loosely on their name. The only other place they advertise is the GP. I am of the opinion that there is a bit of desk research first – using the GP – then a direct search on G for the name – or what they remember of it.

So just to confuse the issue.
