Just following up on something that was mentioned in the Spiders thread...

I normally don't pay much attention to Alexa rank, but as it was mentioned I installed a plugin just to see

The site that was being discussed has a rank of 1205048, which puts it well outside the ranking scale, whereas this site is showing a rank of 98614, which is a lot "better"

I have had a look into Alexa myself and can not understand how the thing works. How accurate are the statistics?

They're not that accurate really, as they are based on users viewing a site with the plugin installed

To be honest I spent more then an hour trying to figure out how they actually do it without some sort of install or plug-in.
