Yes, blog commenting gives to your site more traffic. It is an easy way to promote your site.

If you say a novena that also helps. All previous comments are valid but it is hard work which is the most important. Be a genuine contributor to blogs, forums (not too many just a few that you will read and understand the ethos) and work on your site every day/week/month. Have a look at the backlinks on your competitors as well they are doing the same level of work.

If you want organic ranking then you need to spend this time and work all of these in an organised regular manner. I wrote a blog post on this tonight by coincidence which is a dummy's guide (forum screams foul Red card produced - sliding tackle slipping in a sneaky link).
