I don't know more about the tutorials but there is a website named w3schools.com may be it could help u.

(or just ask on here how to do something with the system ...

please god don't go messing with the live system ... you can end up generating an infinite loops so to speak which will crash the server and which may require a physical reboot) ..

I found some nice (absolute beginner level) free video tutorials for working with mysql/php on 3dbuzz.com.
You have to register to get in, but it's free and painless.
IIRC they take you through coding your own guestbook and the various sql steps needed in setting up the db, tables, users, etc.
Very clear and easy to understand.
