Permalink problems with wordpress

Im trying to sort out my permalinks on a word press blog.

I can modify the .htaccess fine, but how do i know if mod_rewrite is enabled on my server?

Sorry forget it, I was saving the .htaccess file in the wrong place, problem solved, please delete this thread.
