| Hi, I have just recently set up a virtual server to host a website that I am making, I am fairly new to server administration and I was shocked by the number of failed ssh login attempts in my log files. Maybe 400-500 in the space of 3 days. Is this normal? What do you suggest are the best ways of dealing with this? |

| There's very little you can do, apart from using something like fail2ban.

| I'd just change the SSH port. You'll see 99.99999% of these scans disappear, the majority are just automated tools trying the default ssh port |

| I changed the port and it has stopped for now, but I assume that they will eventually portscan again and find the new port. When I get some time I will look into fail2ban. |
